Interests

I spend most of my spare time administering or playing (it's really the same thing) with GNU/Linux based operating systems. I've been using GNU/Linux since around 1999 and cut my teeth on Red Hat Linux 6.0. Currently my OS of choice is Centos.

Employment

I am a Service Assurance FUNgineer for Avaya Incorporated, where the majority of my work is concentrated on supporting GNU/Linux based PBX platforms running on an x86 architecture. When not supporting installations or figuring out why a system failed, I'm usually writing documentation, sometimes giving training, administering the internal Communication Manager Convergence Portal support site, surfing Slashdot, or deleting pointless and distracting e-mail.

Free Software

Free software is the idea that software should contribute to human knowledge, and with more and more of our lives controlled by software, we have the right to know the contents of that software. With the right to view comes the right to modify and re-distribute. It is NOT necessarily about getting software without having to pay for it. It is about Free as in Speech, not free as in beer. The main propopents of Free software are the GNU Project and the Free Software Foundation. Read more about the Free Software philosophy here.
